Completed and On-going Activities

  1. Prof. Rick Burroughs a coastal management specialist of the Department of Marine Affairs, University of Rhode Island visited the Centre from May 9 to May 23, 2015. He has worked with the US President’s Council on Environmental Quality, National Academy of Sciences, US Department of the Interior, and Science Advisor to the Director of the Bureau of Land Management.

    Prof. Burroughs commenced a review of the Centre’s strategic plan and initiated development of a business plan for the Centre. He presented a lecture on the topic “Coastal Management” at the Academic Board Chamber on Tuesday May 19, 2015.
     

  2. The USAID/UCC Fisheries and Coastal Management Capacity Building Project which is funding operationalization of CCM was launched June 9, 2015.

    A climate change adaptation course was held July 27-31, 2015 for a cross section of stakeholders in coastal management (local government officials, planners, disaster managers) at Pempamsie Hotel in Cape Coast.
     

  3. Two consultants, one assessing policy and research needs in district and regional levels, and the other to identifying possible supplementary livelihoods for communities and capacity needs of selected coastal community groups started field work early August 2015. Their reports are expected by the third week of September 2015.
     
  4. A number of research and extension activities are being planned for the second year of the project
