Development of manual for detecting fish caught or processed through illegal means
This project which was done in collaboration with Forensic Science Department developed a written guide that can inform fisheries stakeholders, Fisheries Watchdog Committees as well as fisheries enforcement personnel and marine police how to detect fish caught with illegal methods. This project was funded by USAID/Sustainable Fisheries Management Project. It described qualitative and scientific methods that could serve as identification tools. The guide described kinds of evidence needed to be collected, what testing would be needed to provide valid evidence in criminal cases against individuals using chemicals or other illegal methods or in possession of illegally caught fish.
