The Centre for Coastal Management took part in this year's Edina Bakatue Afahy3, the festival for the Elmina traditional area in the Central Region of Ghana. The Director for the Centre, Dr. Denis Aheto addressed the chiefs and people of Elmina as well as government officials who had gathered at a grand durbar which climaxed the week-long celebration on last Saturday.
In his address, the Director expressed the Centre's delight in joining the people of Edinaman to celebrate their festival.
He took the opportunity to highlight some activities of CCM that are intended to improve fishing activities and livelihoods of the people of the area, noting that sensitization of fishermen against illegal fishing methoods was one activity the Centre was undertaking in coastal communities. He said, "The CCM as a centre of the University of Cape Coast, we are working collaboratively with MoFAD and fishermen to revamp our collapsing fisheries".
He ended his speech by congratulating the Chief, Nana Kojo Konduah VI and the people of Edina on the occasion.
