Adaptation, Displacement, and Disposition (ADD+)

Adaptation, Displacement, and Disposition (ADD+)

Project Description

The ADD (Adaptation, Displacement, and Disposition) project examines the unintended negative consequences of climate change adaptation strategies in coastal communities. Specifically, it investigates how well-intentioned adaptation efforts, designed to help these communities cope with climate change impacts, can sometimes lead to new problems – a phenomenon known as "maladaptation." For example, in Ghana, sea defense structures built to protect coastal communities from flooding (caused by sea level rise) may have unintended negative impacts. The ADD project aims to identify and analyze these maladaptive outcomes, exploring the complexities of climate change adaptation in practice.
