Ocean Country Partnership Programme (Marine Litter)

Ocean Country Partnership Programme (Marine Litter)

Project Description

The Marine Litter training, within the Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP), focuses on tackling the serious problem of man-made waste in our oceans and coastlines. Marine litter causes significant harm to the environment, economies, and people's well-being, leading to a global push for solutions. The OCPP, funded by the UK, works with partner countries to provide marine science expertise, specifically addressing marine pollution, biodiversity loss, and sustainable seafood. By concentrating on marine pollution like litter, the program aims to help countries gather and understand environmental data, develop effective cleanup strategies, raise awareness, and assess risks to ecosystems and communities. Crucially, the OCPP also builds local expertise and understanding to create innovative, country-specific solutions that prevent litter from entering the ocean in the first place.
