Mangroves are coastal forests found in tropical and subtropical regions, characterized by salt-tolerant trees and shrubs that thrive in intertidal zones and areas where seawater meets freshwater, creating unique ecosystems.
On May 23, 2024, the United States Embassy's Regional Environment Office for West and Central Africa led by Mrs. Cherice Siebert visited the Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR) as part of their ESTH LES Regional Workshop.
The Centre for Coastal Management -ACECoR at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has inaugurated a new Library at its new multi-purpose building complex. The new Library is named after Prof. Daniel Pauly, Lead Scientist on the Sea Around Us Project at the Institute of Oceans and Fisheries at the British Columbia, and Prof. Rashid Sumaila, a Professor of Ocean and Fisheries Economics at the same university based in Canada.
We use water for a variety of purposes, ranging from domestic, agricultural, and industrial. A constant availability of clean pure water signifies peace. The destruction of these essential resources can create ripples of unrest, disrupting the harmony within societies. Unclean water affects our health, and ecosystem health and causes a lot of imbalances in the environment.
The Centre for Coastal Management -ACECoR at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana has won two(2) competitive grants in collaboration with global partners under the New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF). The Centre therefore intends to apply part of its funding allocation to hire a Post-Doctoral Fellow (1 person) to support its scientific research and provide technical backstopping on the project.
