Centre for Coastal Management

The Centre for Coastal Management – Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (CCM-ACECoR), University of Cape Coast (UCC), hosted Ms. Anna Karlqvist, the Coordinator for the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme at the World Maritime University (WMU), Malmö, Sweden. Ms. Anna paid a working visit to learn more about the Centre as well as the University and to explore opportunities for collaboration. This visit came after 10 students from UCC successfully completed a month exchange visit at WMU. 

During her stay, she interacted with the staff of CCM-ACECoR and the student beneficiaries of the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme.  The Staff of the Centre also got the opportunity to learn more about WMU with much focus on its history and academic programmes.

Ms. Anna had the opportunity to visit two research sites of the Centre. The first site was the Elmina Fishing Harbour, where a pressure sensor has been deployed to measure water levels and temperature. The second site was the Pra River, to observe a camera that has been installed to measure flow velocity, bandwidth and water levels of the river. She again had a tour of the microplastics lab of the Centre. 

One major highlight of her visit was the announcement of the opportunity for two more students from UCC to visit WMU on another Erasmus+ Mobility Programme. In the future, WMU and the CCM-ACECoR will collaborate to apply for the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme to create more exchange opportunities for students. 

Beyond this, CCM-ACECoR is working with WMU on joint research and academic partnerships to reaffirm the commitment of both institutions to strengthening collaboration in support of sustainable ocean development and blue economy growth.
