The Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR), University of Cape Coast has obtained international accreditation for four postgraduate programmes being run with – and hosted by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (DFAS).

However, various environmental problems caused by anthropogenic activities, have led to a decline in fishing catches and loss of biodiversity.
