An exchange student from Yokohama National University, Japan, Ms. Natsuki Takayama, currently undertaking studies at the University of Cape Coast’s Centre for Coastal Management - Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience, (CCM-ACECoR), has presented her final research project on disaster education in Ghana, highlighting the need for increased community education and awareness to reduce the risk of disasters in coastal communities
The Centre for Coastal Management at the University of Cape Coast, in partnership with UK International Development, has successfully concluded a five-day short course on Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), aimed at strengthening national capacity for effective marine conservation and ocean governance.
The Centre for Coastal Management - Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (CCM-ACECOR) of the University of Cape Coast participated actively in Ghana’s 2026 national celebration of World Wetlands Day, organised by the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission of Ghana in Anloga on the 6th February. The event highlighted the ecological, economic, and cultural significance of wetlands and underscored the critical role of traditional knowledge and community involvement in sustaining these ecosystems.
Professor Rashid Sumaila, a member of the International Advisory Board of the Centre for Coastal Management – Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (CCM-ACECoR), has paid a working visit to the Centre to provide support to the State of Fisheries and Aquaculture in West Africa Project, funded by the World Bank.
The GIS Unit of the Center for Coastal Management, ACECoR, recently held a hands-on drone flying training for graduate students in Environmental Science at the University of Cape Coast, as part of their advanced GIS and remote sensing course.
Students were particularly taken through the features and operation of the Mavic III thermal drone in collecting environmental data.
