Community Tree Planting Event Held at Bayive
Body

On a lovely bright and sunny morning of September 21, 2023 members of the Bayive community gathered together for a tree planting activity. The event was organized by Avu Lagoon CREMA Partnership (ALC) Board, Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission (WD) , Centre for Coastal Management (CCM) and Wilder Institute - Calgary Zoo with the aim  of helping the community build more resilience to climate change and create awareness about the importance of trees in our ecosystem.

Community members & volunteers eagerly set to work planting the seedlings which included Cassia, Acacia, Mahogany, Soursop, Royal Palms and Guavas.

Children were not left out as they excitedly helped out with the planting process. The Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission taught the participants how to properly handle the saplings and how to ensure that they were planted at the right depth. As the day progressed, more and more people arrived, and the energy was infectious.

At the end of the day, 2000 seedlings were planted, with the area looking greener and more vibrant than ever before. The event was a huge success, not only in terms of the number of trees planted but also in terms of raising awareness about environmental issues. The day was crowned with issuance of certificates to participants. A coconut party was held to refresh participants and also to reduce the plastic footprint in the community.

This is a great example of what can be achieved when a community comes together to make a positive change.
