CCM 10th Anniversary 2nd Monthly Webinar

The Centre for Coastal Management as part of its 10th Anniversary is organising its 2nd monthly webinar. The webinar will be on the thematic area of coastal geomorphology and engineering with the topic, "challenges of adapting to sea level rise in West Africa and Worldwide". Dr. Luciana das Neves, a senior coastal and offshore engineer-project manager of the International Marine Dredging Consultants will be the expert speaker for the webinar.

Sea level rise is a major concern for most coastal regions around the world. West Africa is particularly vulnerable to sea level rise due to its low-lying deltas, susceptible to erosion, saltwater intrusion, and flooding. Sea-level rise would aggravate existing threats to the continued survival of the biodiversity of low-lying coastal areas. In Ghana and the coastal states of West Africa, vulnerable habitats include the strand zone, lagoons, wetlands, and intertidal sandy and rocky areas. There are different adaptation strategies that can be employed to address local and global situations.

This webinar, provides a synthesis of coastal adaptation strategies and challenges to sea level rise
