    First OCPP West Africa Marine Litter Training Programme Held at ACECoR, UCC

    The Centre for Coastal Management – Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR) at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana in collaboration with the Centre for Environmental Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) in the United Kingdom (UK), has organised West Africa’s first ever Marine Litter Training Programme. This comprehensive training programme funded by UK Government’s Ocean Country Partnership Programme, is made up of three distinct short courses, and is designed to address various aspects of marine litter management.

    A Team from the Centre for Coastal Management (CCM) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) embarked on a crucial outreach to educate the public about the importance of biodiversity conservation within Ghana’s largest wetland, the Keta Lagoon Complex Ramsar Site (KLCRS) in the Volta Region. This effort was aimed at addressing the alarming decline of biodiversity in the Ramsar site, which is threatening the ecosystem's ability to provide essential goods and services.

    The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) has announced the selection of 10 projects for the Fiscal Year 2024 Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) program, which is a collaboration between JST, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED).

The Centre is a multidisciplinary think tank institution working in close committed partnerships with several funded programmes, one of which is the Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR), under the ACE Impact project by the World Bank through the Association of African Universities.
