Research-based Management of the Gulf of Guinea (HOTSPOT)
Call for Applications for Research Grants – Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Philosophy (MPhil) Degrees for the 2018/2019 Academic Year at the University of Cape Coast
Background:
A team of scientists (Team SafeFish) affiliated to the Centre for Coastal Management of the University of Cape Coast proposes to develop a low cost, easy to use and easy to maintain rapid field test kit that incorporates colour cued chemical reactions and laser spectroscopy for quick detection of these toxic chemicals.
The “Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation in Coastal Areas of Ghana” short course is a five-day intensive course for professionals working on coastal economies, spatial planning, environmental science and population/health. The course is designed to meet individual learning needs as well as to provide valuable and constructive feedback for both participants and trainers alike. This year, the five day workshop is targeted at journalists from selected media houses along the coastal zone of Ghana.
The Centre for Coastal Management (CCM) and the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (DFAS) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) have successfully organized the maiden edition of the Conference on Fisheries and Coastal Environment, in collaboration with the University of Rhode Island (USA) and the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (MoFAD). The event was supported with funds from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the USAID/UCC Fisheries Project and the USAID/GHANA Sustainable Fisheries Management Project (SFMP).
Background of the dialogue
To take the right actions, decision makers, fishing businesses and citizens must be provided with reliable and up-to-date information on the state and dynamics of our fisheries resources and their supporting systems.Such information including those on hydrography, nutrients, trophic interaction and biological rates, as well as fisheries production, socioeconomics and policy are collected, analysed and used by scientists scattered over different institutions and locations.
